Ring Resizing FAQ
Will resizing my ring leave marks on it?
In the majority of cases, resizing a ring up or down will not leave marks on it.
In some cases though, there can be exceptions. In instances where the ring’s metal is sufficiently unique, we may need to source an uncommon alloy or metal combination to be used in the resizing process to best match the original metal. When different combinations of metals are used, there may be slight color differences at the site where the resizing procedure was done. While these marks may be there, they are usually only visible under close scrutiny. As with all services, Kosmima will always discuss the expectations of a Ring Resizing project with you before undertaking it.
How long will resizing my ring take?
Most ring resizing projects take anywhere from 7 to 10 days
What ring metals can you resize?
We can resize any rings made of Gold or Platinum.
Are there limits to how many sizes my ring can be changed up or down?
As a general rule of thumb, we recommend resizing your ring to no more than two sizes bigger or two sizes smaller. This recommendation is made because resizing rings to a size that is vastly different from the original can potentially diminish the structural integrity of the ring. Furthermore, sometimes the design of the ring, or the setting of the gemstones on it, can limit what can be done with regards to how much it can be resized.
There are exceptions to this, of course. The best way to get an accurate idea of how much we can resize a ring is to bring it in for a consultation. At our studio, we can take measurements of the ring, your finger, and analyse the piece to get a solid idea of what can be done resizing wise.
How are rings resized?
In simple terms, the ring resizing process involves cutting the shank of the ring and adding or removing parts of it to ensure an appropriate circumference and size.
More complex work must be done in cases where the ring’s shank is adorned with gemstones, such as with pave settings. In these instances, the stones have to be taken into consideration and may have to be removed and placed back before and after the resizing is done.
Prior to any resizing project, we will consult with you on the steps we will take to help get back your ring’s original, snug fit.
